Waste Management Photo

The Waste Management program at the Nevada Site Office was formally established in 1978. The program’s primary mission is to manage legacy radioactive waste generated by the cleanup of U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Department of Defense sites across the United States that were involved in the research, testing, and production of nuclear weapons. Mission objectives include the responsibility for the proper acceptance and disposal of low-level and mixed low-level waste in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws; management of hazardous waste; and management of rural county emergency response grants.
