Industrial Sites Sub-Project

Industrial Site Photo Industrial Sites are facilities and land on the Nevada Test Site and Nevada Test and Training Range (to include the Tonopah Test Range) used in direct support of historic nuclear testing which resulted in environmental contamination and subsequent hazardous and radioactive waste generation. The Industrial Sites Sub-Project is responsible for identifying the nature and extent of contamination, determining its potential risk to the public and environment, and performing the necessary corrective actions in compliance with guidelines and requirements.

More than 1,850 Industrial Sites have been identified, verified and inventoried for restoration and/or closure. As of September 2009, 1,768 sites are completed in accordance with the Federal Facility Agreement and Consent Order, an agreement under the regulatory authority and oversight of the State of Nevada Division of Environmental Protection.
