Environmental Restoration
The Environmental Restoration Project, operated by the U.S. Department of Energy Environmental Management Program, performs corrective actions for
inactive contaminated sites and facilities where nuclear tests and weapons experiments were conducted. These areas include the Nevada Test Site and
locations on the Nevada Test and Training Range, which includes parts of the Tonopah Test Range.
The mission of the Environmental Restoration Project is to identify the nature and extent of contamination, determine the risk to the public and the
environment, and act to protect or restore natural resources adversely affected by the presence of contamination. In addition to the corrective action
activities, long-term monitoring techniques are implemented as necessary to ensure the health and safety of workers, the public, and the environment.
